So it’s a few days later (and a few drinks later…whoo Friday night!) and I’m slightly calmer. I’m still stressing out, and I think that’s a combination of the hormones and legitimate stressors, but I’m better.
Part of that’s coming from having talked to my doc today and he suggesting another month on lower hormones, which is a deadline rather than just “well, lets wait and see.” So that’s helping my stress level.
I also went to the place I’ve done hair removal in the past and got a quote from them. I’d scheduled an apointment (just for the heck of it) somewhere else and the other place quoted me at slightly over $7,000 for 12 sessions of laser removal over the next two years for ‘everything’ – eyebrow shaping, facial touchup, arms, pits, chest, tummy, back, legs, whatever the hell I want. Unfortunately, that’s a bit out of my price range and the woman was being overly pushy and stressing me out.
So the place I’ve gone before said $4,300 for arms, chest, tummy, and legs, and any touchups on my face would be about $140 since I’ve been a past client. That’s still a lot of money, I’m not going to pretend it’s not, but it’s a damn sight less than $7,000 and does the areas I’m most concerned about most ‘natural’ girls not having as hairy as i do. I can deal with ‘brow waxing, shaving my pits, and not wearking a bikini any time soon… Likewise, I know the laser they have works for me – I’ve been happy with my face and have no reason to expect the rest won’t work well, too.
So anyway, my mom offered to pay $1,000 as an early birthday present, and I have $500 saved in my ‘transitioning’ savings account (thank you blogs like Get Rich Slowly for the awesome advice of creating goal-oriented savings accounts). So that’s $1500 done, $2800 to go. Damn, that’s still a lot. I have a general savings account with another $1000, which brings it down to $1,800. Which is much better, but I hate to deplete that general savings account…(I won’t be touching my “Emergency” account or “Car” account which are for emergencies (duh) and any car payments that come up (duh).) (Speaking of parentheticals, I need to get my oil changed.)
The rep I talked to said their ‘medical financing’ company usually offers clients financing with the first six months interest free. I am financially opposed to loans/financing with interest (I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point in my life they’ll be the lesser of two evils, but I’m not there yet) but $1,800 over six months is only $300 a month. (I know, “only” $300, she says…)
Seeing as it looks like my rent is going to be a tad lower than it was last year and will having teaching money coming in soon to the tune of around $300/month, I think I can swing that without A) tapping into my emergency savings money, B) halting all savings and over the next number of months, and C) putting a major crimp in my entertainment spending, which isn’t huge to begin with. (Major parenthetical – I think I found an apartment! waiting to hear back on the credit check! That really requires a whole ‘nother post, so I won’t get into it now…)
So yeah. The medical financing company’s website is down (which is somewhat shadey…) so I guess I need to call them. Assuming the six-months-interest-free thing is true, I think I’m gonna do it.
Is it weird I’m getting so excited about hair removal?
PS – I need to write about my laser first hair removal experience…what a trip that was…
